TRUE POETS BIDE THEIR TIME

There appears a flight of dragons without heads.
  -- I Ching

They do not wish to make fake pearls
but prefer to wait till a real one matures,
though they know it takes a good many days.
“All in due time” is their favorite phrase.

Certain of their strength, sure of their skill,
they know that time is not a thing to kill,
but to be used to develop the poetic soul
while keeping in view the ultimate goal.

The arrogant dragon has cause to repent.
Better be a headless dragon who won’t relent.
Epic aspirations will end in defeat,
but mildness and resolve cannot be beat.

There is no sense in using force
to obtain what comes in its proper course.
Disregard the braggarts, filter out their hype.
Dreams are fulfilled when the time is ripe

GOOD NEWS FOR POETRY LOVERS

. . . And finally tonight, this happy news
from our radiant and distinguished Muse:
Though poets are damned by the gods’ contempt,
Poetry itself will remain exempt.
