Fugue for a Man and a Woman, a play for voices and instruments by A. S. Maulucci was performed in 2010 at La Biblioteca in San Miguel de Allende featuring BC May and Phoebe Greyson
.
Fugue for a Man and a Woman is called a play for voices because the performers do not move around the stage but rather sit in chairs or on stools or stand at lecterns. The pattern of the dialogue is structured like a musical fugue. Each character speaks in a trance-like state about issues concerning the breakdown of their relationship, the loss of a child, and the disintegration of love. Their thoughts interweave in what amounts to parallel monologues which develop into a tapestry or poetic fugue.
The play has been performed in Montreal and Connecticut, and was broadcast on Connecticut Public Radio with David Keith and Academy-Award-winning actress Frances McDormand.
